Third PRADSA Workshop
3rd PRaDSA workshop: Technology and Social Action Research Summit – Loughborough, 29th and 30th November
We invite you to join the seven researchers accountable for the PRaDSA project to thrash out some of the underpinning philosophies of this work and plan evaluation of the activities. It is nearly our half-way mark in late November and time to take stock. In the process, we will be discussing the finer points of what social action means and what we can do with action research methods to understand it better and promote its growth. It's going to be a no-holds-barred discussion of what we are doing and why, to shape our practice and research questions - if this interests you and you want to plunge in, please let us know. To register interest, send a note to Kutoma Wakunuma at K.J.Wakunuma@shu.ac.uk as soon as possible.
New participants might like to make themselves familiar with the discussions being had by PRaDSA researchers and practitioners before getting involved. Have a look at www.technologyandsocialaction.org and sign up for the debates. Anyone who has been at a PRaDSA or TSA workshop is welcome, but it will be slightly different in character (more focussed on the ideas in the research project, than outwards at general practice).
We have money to pay expenses, including your stay overnight in Leeds (and a limited budget to cover your absence from work– be that to your organisation or to you as a freelance operator), if you wish to attend this workshop and contribute.
So, please bring your ideas and opinions and join us. To register interest, send a note to Kutoma Wakunuma at <K.J.Wakunuma@shu.ac.uk> as soon as possible. She will also be the first port of call for any questions you have. (Please note that a call for interest in a workshop on the theme of social action and Web 2.0 is also now circulating, so if no 3 doesn't appeal, start planning your contribution to workshop no 4…!)
About PRADSA
PRADSA stands for "Practical Design for Social Action". The PRADSA project's goal is to develop and extend the capability of social action organisations to creatively design new practices by appropriating and adapting ICTs. There are three strands to the project, of which the workshop series is one. The other two are:
- To develop a new understanding of designing in social action settings, grounded in detailed contextual studies of design in practice.
- To create a collection of practical resources to support the work of practitioners (and others) including workshop materials and easy-to-use (open-source) on-line community communications systems.
PRADSA is a project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) as part of its Designing for the 21st Century programme.
